The IOMNJ Scavenger Hunt

I’ve been working hard this week to bring the first IOMNJ for Education lesson to life and have now added an inspiration section to the website, with free photos that people can use if they can’t get outside to find things to draw. The lesson takes the form of a virtual scavenger hunt around the IOMNJ interactive map and encourages children to explore and discuss the artworks as well as learning more about the Manx environment and artistic approaches. Take a look below to see exactly what this lesson offers.

The first page sets the scene and gives the learning objectives for this lesson. As you can see, lots of different skills can be covered by just this one lesson!

The next three pages are the actual scavenger hunt and a prompt for the children to think about what artworks they particularly like and why. (Click on the photos below to make them full size).

The final page encourages the children to create their own artwork, either by getting outside and finding inspiration or using a photo from our new download gallery. This can be found on the inspiration page and I’ll be working to improve how this functions and the variety of photos on the page over the coming weeks.

I hope you like this first lesson from the IOMNJ. I have lots of ideas for more and they’ll be appearing in a new section on the website over the summer. The photos in the new ‘inspiration’ section are available for anyone to use and if you do create some art based on any of the photos then please send them in to emma@iomnj.com for inclusion on the map. For now, the scavenger hunt file is available for download from this link so you can try it out. It’ll be interesting to know how many artworks fit each category so please share your results with me if you do!

Until next time,

Emma
